What would be appropriate for a Memorial Day parade and barbecue?

Memorial Day is a time of remembrance for those who have served our country in the military, so U.S. flag-inspired outfits with touches of red, white, blue, or stars and stripes let kids show patriotism. How cute is this nautical-inspired Anchors Away Stripe Dress? Turquoise trim is a fresh twist on navy blue, and if you have a twirly girl, please note: the twirl factor on this easy knit is 10 out of 10!

You’ll love this Rhinestone Stars Tie-Dye Romper Dress for hot summer days, too. It’s easy-fitting, lightweight and the shorts underneath let girls cartwheel and somersault to their heart’s content without revealing too much. The rhinestones and back cut-out detail are hits too, so with all that going for it, this could be the most-worn dress in your daughter’s closet this season.

Older girls are really into this stylish San Miguel Chambray Jumpsuit. (It’s one of those “wish it came in mom sizes” items that we love, too.) Cotton chambray makes it a cooler alternative to her favorite jeans. Plus it’s sleeveless, and who doesn’t appreciate that when temperatures soar?

You’ll love this Blue Beach Pants and Chalk Pink Beach Shirt combo for boys. The cotton-blend pants have soft vintage wash and relaxed cut – boys can’t be boys if they’re uncomfortable. Roll up the hems for a more casual look…super-cute! These pants are a must because he’ll get so much wear out of them. Pair with our textured button-up shirt in pink, for a subtle nod to the red-white-blue theme of the day. Again, this shirt will go with any bottoms he has, so you can’t go wrong.

We’re invited to a pool party. Can you suggest suitable, not skimpy, swimwear for my kids?

For those of you with boys, here are a couple winners for summer pool parties and beach trips. These fun Striped Swim Trunks say “patriotic” without being too “American flag.” You’ll be impressed with the quality and fit, plus the mid-length strikes just the right balance between too short and too baggy.

Another favorite and a game-changer for active kids: our Quick-Dry Hybrid Swim Shorts. Like the name says, they dry quickly and have features you’d find in nicer shorts. So, he can go from splashing in the pool to running inside for a snack, or riding in the car, without dripping all over. As you’ve probably figured out, they’re a must for vacations.

We get it. Some girls’ swimwear out there is, well, on the skimpy side. Let’s just say that’s not the case with our fabulous Taylor Rainbow One-Piece Swimsuit, for example. She’ll love the wavy, colorful print –it has the right amount of coverage, is lined, AND the fabric’s UPF50. Bring on the sunshine! (Be sure to check out our whole swimwear collection for more not-too-skimpy designs.)

What’s fun to wear to a family get-together?

Match your mini! Nothing’s more fun than matching mommy-and-me outfits, especially at family parties and neighborhood barbecues. On hot, sultry days, nothing’s cooler than white – and you’ll love the fresh, modern look of our White Embroidered Dresses. Not all mother-daughter styles flatter both of you, but these definitely will. Don’t let “white” put you off (you’re envisioning spills and stains, right?) – they’re completely machine washable.

Want a colorful look? Give our vibrant Rainbow Circle Dresses a whirl. The circle silhouette and soft mesh fabric make them absolutely one of the easiest dresses you’ll ever wear. Practically floats over the body – exactly what you want to live in when it’s hot and humid. For more standout styles, be sure to check out our Mommy & Me collection.

Can’t forget the boys. Your son will bring a tropical vibe to the party with our Botanic Palm Print Shirt. It’s a great alternative to wild prints, loud colors or basic tees. The cool-looking print and perfect shade of blue work with lots of shorts and pants you probably already have. Plus it’s cotton, so no matter how much he and the cousins horse around, he won’t overheat. There’s even an adaptive version with easy-fasten VELCRO® instead of buttons.

We like it paired with Blue Dockside Shorts, which score huge points for summertime comfort, style and versatility. Another option? Those Blue Beach Pants we raved about a couple questions back. Especially if your family’s party happens to be on a cooler day or at an indoor location (hello, freezing air-conditioning). We’re pretty sure your son won’t complain because hey, little boys get cold, too!

Any ideas for stylish kids’ outfits for a summer wedding?

We have so many outfits that look adorable at summer weddings. (Find more in Girls Dresses and Communion & Weddings collections.) How sweet is this lovely Pink Triple Tier Dress? The soft shade of pink and clean, classic lines make it an ideal choice for girls who aren’t into frills.

Our flowy Rowan Blue Lace & Tulle Maxi Dress is a dream for both indoor and outdoor weddings. Lots of girls we know really love the maxi style and all the extra touches that fancy it up…lace trim, a long sheer ruffle at the bottom, double straps, large flower at the waist. Your girl might, too.

This smart Khaki Herringbone Suit will have your son looking every bit as handsome as his dad. You won’t believe how well-made it is, and all the thoughtful tailoring details (full lining, inside pocket, notched lapels, adjustable waistband). You can easily mix the pants and jacket with other items in his closet. And keep in mind it’s also hand-me-downable to a younger brother, lucky cousin, favorite neighbor or friend. You can’t go wrong with a classic Nautical Stripe Blazer either. It’s from the same brand and every bit as nicely made.

What looks stylish for a summer festival?

You’ll find lots of amazing looks your kids can rock at a laid-back summer festival. As for our Mermaid Sequin Tank, Shorts and matching Jacket, we have two words: mermaids and sparkle. Sold! If your girl’s into either of these things, she will love this trio. They’re all knits, so nothing constricts when she’s dancing, skipping and rocking out to the music. When the sun sets and you’re bringing out the sweaters, this is the kind of jacket your little mermaid will actually wear. We promise.

If your girl wants to really shine, how about our Silver Shimmer Romper? The soft metallic fabric and detailing look so cool she might be mistaken for one of the performers! Okay, a slight exaggeration, but it really is fun to wear. And don’t worry, it’s definitely more stylish than skimpy.

Your little dude will win rave reviews in this Fairbanks Polo and Beach Pants (in pink or navy). The whole look has a hip vintage-‘70s vibe, without a hint of that vintage polyester feel. Not every little boy wants to wear a hat, but if yours does, this Beach Vibes Tropical Fedora looks fabulous. On the practical side, it shades his face when you’re out and about.
